Performance Notes'Punctually at 10, the Imperial party arrived , with an escort of the Blues. The Emperor and Empress were received by the Duke of Edinburgh, as President of the Council of the Albert-Hall, by the Earl of Lathom, the Earl of Kilmorey, Colonel Makins, Sir Lyon Playfair, Messrs T B Chappell and Ernest de la Rue. The Emperor and Empress were then conducted by the west staircase to the Queen's Room, which was decorated with flowers. Very soon the Royal Party were ready to enter, and the critical moment had arrived. "God Save the Queen" sounded and the Kaisermarch as the Royal party entered, while the whole audience rose to its feet as one man and looked in the direction of the Royal box. The Empress, who was ushered in by the Duke of Edinburgh in naval uniform, was dressed in scarlet and wore magnificent diamonds as a tiara and as a necklace. The Duchess of Edinburgh wore white and a tiara of diamonds. The Emperor looked extremely well and bright in the undress uniform of a British Admiral and had a pleasant expression on his face' (The Times, 10 July 1891)
