| Performance Notes | "The arena had been converted into a pageant ground, and the organ was screened off by an archway with flights of steps and landings leading down to the floor level. At 3 o'clock the Duchess of York, who was accompanied by Lady Beatrix Wilkinson, and the Bishop of Southwark, Colonel E Wyndham, chairman of the executive committee, and other officials of the society, took to their seats on the platform, which had been arranged on the flights of steps.
The Bishop of Southwark, as chairman, said that a message of good wishes had been received from the Bishop of London. Their first business was the presentation of purses to the Duchess of York by the children who had collected or given the money they contained. Each purse held at least 10s., and there were about 1,100 of them.
The children carrying the purses were marshalled in pairs. Before the first two reached the platform the Duchess of York was presented with a bouquet of pink carnations. For half an hour the children, who were of all ages from four to 18, both boys and girls, advanced, presented their purses, and the, turning to left to right, took up seats in two sections of the hall which had been reserved for them."
