BiographyHermann Winkler (March 3rd 1924 in Duisburg - January 21 2009 in Gauting ) was a German opera singer ( tenor ) and chamber singers .

Winkler studied in Hanover and started his career in 1949-1955 with an engagement at the Staatstheater Hannover . He then went from Bielefeld (1954-1958) via Zurich to Cologne , where he was a regular cast member from 1959 to 1986. . Reached a high point of his career through his involvement after Bayreuth . There he was for many years a member of the Bayreuth Festival ensembles.

Winkler joined the Bayreuth Festival initially in smaller lots. In 1965 he took over the helm in the Flying Dutchman , in the years 1976/1977 he sang with great success in the title role in Parsifal .

Hermann Winkler sang during his active singing career a broad repertoire, which he of the lyric Mozart roles, which he had sung initially, to the great roles of the hero tenor extended (Lohengrin, Florestan). The end of his career eventually formed character roles (Drum Major, Aegisthus, Novagerio) in numerous works of modern opera repertoire.
