BiographyThe Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra is Britain's leading orchestra for young musicians on the threshold of their professional careers. It provides invaluable experience to those who are studying or have recently completed their training, but are not yet established in the profession. The Orchestra exists to give these talented musicians the opportunity to rehearse and perform large-scale and lesser known orchestral works in the UK's premier venues, receiving coaching from top professionals and working with eminent conductors and soloists.

Orchestra members can benefit from a network of peers, all of whom work together within a unique training environment, itself providing high-level orchestral experience of a quality unequalled elsewhere on the British music scene. Today, many of the major symphony, opera and chamber orchestras in the UK have ex-YMSO instrumentalists within their ranks, some in very prominent positions.

The YMSO has worked with Julian Lloyd Webber, Lesley Garrett, Sian Edwards, Nigel Kennedy, Tasmin Little and Peter Donohoe amongst other household names. The late Yehudi Menuhin held the position of President of the Orchestra for many years until his death. Performances have been given to great critical acclaim in all the major UK concert venues such as the Barbican Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, the Symphony Hall Birmingham, the Philharmonic Hall Liverpool and the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.

At present the orchestra is resident at St. John's, Smith Square, London.
