Biography | Arthur Davies (b. 1941)
Welsh tenor. Was factory draughtsman and already married before taking up singing. Solo début as Squeak in Billy Budd, WNO (Cardiff) 1972. Over next 12 years sang over 30 prin. roles incl. Nemorino, Nadir, Nero, the Fox (The Cunning Little Vixen), teva, Lensky, Rodolfo, Pinkerton, and Don José. CG début 1976. Has sung with ENO, Scottish Opera, Opera North (Gaston in Brit. stage première of Verdi's Jérusalem), and Eur. and Amer. companies. In concert-hall is notable singer of Elgar oratorios. |
