BiographyJack, was brought up in Cullen on the Banffshire coast of North-East Scotland. His interest in folk music stems from years of following bands passing through local festival Speyfest and from the many opportunities given to him as a youngster with local fiddle groups. Growing up mainly with the teachings of classical violin and the North-East fiddle style, Jack has always maintained a strong interest in all genres of music and a desire to explore the wider musical world within Scotland and further afield.

In 2008 Jack moved to Glasgow to pursue his career in folk music and study BA Scottish Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (Formerly RSAMD) where he graduated in 2012. Soon after, Jack was announced as a finalist in 2009’s BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of The Year award, which led to his first big opportunities as a young professional. Following the finals, Jack and his 5 fellow finalists, including band member Adam Holmes, toured Scotland as the 2009 TMSA Young Trad Tour which, went on the following year to feature at many more festivals across the UK as the infamous Muckle Loons! The year ended with Jack teaming up with Steven, David and Chris to form RURA, who have quickly become a very popular young act. Jack has featured as a soloist in many concerts across Scotland and has performed and taught alongside acts throughout the UK, Europe and U.S.A.
