Biography | Bill Threlfall, (born April 24, 1925 , Penang, Straits Settlements [now in Malaysia]died March 7, 2007 , London, Eng.), British tennis commentator and coach who was for many the voice of Wimbledon as he broadcast on the All-England Clubs annual tennis tournament for 41 years, starting in 1966. During a 22-year military career (194365), Threlfall enjoyed a successful amateur career as a tennis player, during which he played at Wimbledon in mixed doubles in 1952. Threlfall retired from the military in 1965 and the following year joined ITV. He later moved to BBC radio and then (1974) to BBC television. From 1989 he also covered worldwide tennis events for Sky Sports. |
