BiographyVivian Tierney began her career with the D'Oyly Carte Opera company. Her first major operatic role was as Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni; she then went on to be a sought-after operatic performer and critically acclaimed “singing actress”, being particularly associated with the operatic heroines of Strauss, Janácek, Shostakovich, Berg and Britten. Vivian is currently moving into character roles (soprano, zwischenfach or mezzo.)

Operatic roles have included the title role in Salome, Ellen Orford Peter Grimes, Mrs Foram in the world première of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s The Silver Tassie and critically acclaimed performances as Tatyana Eugene Onegin & Katerina Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk all for English National Opera; Die Färberin in Die Frau ohne Schatten in Basel; Marie in Wozzeck for Opera North and Gran Teate del Liceu; Marietta Die Tote stadt for Oper Köln; Gutrune Götterdämmerung, Miss Jessell The Turn of the Screw & Miss Wingrave Owen Wingrave for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Aufseherin in Elektra for Washington National Opera; Madame Larina for the Canadian Opera Company and in Chile, Miss Jessel The Turn of the Screw at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago.

More recently, Vivian made her acclaimed role début as Herodias Salome at the Liceu, Barcelona and performed Miss Wingrave Owen Wingrave at the Reichsparteitagsgelände Nürnberg. (2014)
