Biography | Hugh started his horn playing career in the section of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. After five years, he left to concentrate on freelancing and played in the sections of virtuosi such as Barry Tuckwell, Alan Civil, Tony Tunstall and Geoff Bryant. In 1975 he became first horn in the Northern Sinfonia in Newcastle and in 1988, became Assistant Principal to David Flack at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra until his retirement in 2005. He was horn tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester from 1980 to 1991 before accepting a similar position at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He continues to freelance with all the major orchestras in Scotland. |
