Biography | A Bennett was the conductor and former principal cornet player of the Burbage Silver band
The Burbage Silver Band emerged from a number of Burbage-based bands. In 1907, Edmond Evans formed an orchestral band, and in 1912 they progressed to a Military Band with about 25 members. Disbanded in 1914, it reformed again in 1919 together with the members from the then Burbage Brass Band. In 1927, at an Annual meeting of the the Burbage Military Band, it was decided to dispose of the few remaining woodwind instruments and to rename the band Burbage Silver Band. The first bandmaster of Horace Bee, who was succeeded by Sam Moore. Bert Bennett became bandmaster shortly after, a post which he retained for 27 years. He saw the band through the war period |
