Biography | Latham began adult life in the engineering industry, singing as an amateur in the Burnley Gilbert & Sullivan Society, near his home town of Padiham, in Lancashire. Only in his late 20s did he go to study at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he sang his first great Verdi role, Don Carlo in Ernani.
After a season at Scottish Opera, he joined Opera North in 1984, moving from there to ENO in the early 1990s. Appearances at the Wexford Festival, in Australia, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic followed. |
