BiographySimmons was for nearly twenty years Principal Trumpeter of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In this capacity he played for many of the world’s top conductors as well as with artists such as Dizzy Gillespie and Wynton Marsalis. He also worked with all the other major London ensembles and often performed as a soloist and session player. Whilst with the RPO he became Senior Trumpet Professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and his students are to be found in all areas of the music profession.

In 1996 he was appointed to the position of Solo Trumpet with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in Norway with its accompanying University Professorship. Since returning to East Anglia in 2001, to a life of weekend choral concerts, gigs and teaching at the UEA, he has developed and refined an innate love of jazz.
