BiographyOver the past few years young conductor Eduardo Portal has made a great impression amongst orchestras and audiences alike. After his debut last November with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, he is returning to the orchestra in several occasions this season for performances at the Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall and other UK venues.
In coming months he is also returning to the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Vallés Symphony Orchestra in their main concert series at Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y Leon, Navarra Symphony Orchestra and Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga. Some orchestras that will see Eduardo's debut include Dalasinfoniettan, Orchestra of Opera North, Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, Orquesta de Córdoba, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao and Musikene Symphony Orchestra.
Recent seasons have seen Eduardo make important appearances with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra, Madrid Symphony Orchestra, etc.
Since graduating as conductor and violinist from the University of the Arts in Berlin, the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Royal Northern College of Music, Eduardo has held the position of Assistant Conductor at the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the National Youth Orchestra of Spain.
His operatic experiences feature performances of Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène, Janácék’s Katya Kabanová, Bernstein's Candide, Rossini's The Barber of Seville and Handel's Imeneo, as well as work on Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore at Glyndebourne Festival Opera.
Eduardo is particularly committed to contemporary repertoire and is founder of the Antares Ensemble in Spain, whose focus is on the performance of new music and research into its links with historical and rarely performed masterpieces. (October 2014)
