BiographyEuan Burton is a Composer, Double and Electric Bassist, Producer, Educator and one of the leading musicians to emerge from Scotland in the last decade. Burton grew up in East Kilbride, Scotland where he took up Bass Guitar at the age of 10. After being introduced to Jazz in his teens Euan switched to Double Bass and went on to study at Birmingham Conservatoire receiving the Jazz Course Prize while in his second year and graduating with a Bmus Jazz (Hons). He studied with many of greatest musicians around today including bassists Dave Holland and Ed Howard, Trumpeter Dave Douglas, and Drummer Ari Hoenig.

Performing constantly with the UK’s foremost musicians he’s a member of groups lead by Mark McKnight, David Lyttle and Andreas Varady and has performed with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra. He has also established an international reputation performing with many of the top international jazz musicians. Burton is noted for his touring work in the groups of some of New York’s most influential band leaders including Guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg’s Quartet featuring Will Vinson and Mark Ferber and modern drumming icon Ari Hoenig’s Trio alongside award winning guitarist Gilad Hekselman. Outside of Jazz he has worked in the folk, pop and rock idioms touring and recording with Irish award winning vocalist Camille O’Sullivan, Bosie, Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain and Rachel Hair.

Burton performs across the U.K. and Ireland at the major Jazz festivals and venues and also tours Internationally having recently played in Denmark, Belgium, Holland, Portugal, France, Estonia, Italy, Germany, America and the South Pacific. He recently performed in two of London’s most prestigious venues The Queen Elizabeth Hall and The Royal Albert Hall. As both a performer and contributor, Burton has appeared on BBC Radio Scotland’s “Jazz House”, “Global Gathering” and has also performed live on BBC Radio 3 several times. As an educator he performs workshops around the country and has taught master-classes in Belgium and Estonia.

An accomplished composer Burton has released thee album featuring his compositions “Collective” (“A beautiful album” Radio Scotland) and “Forgotten Things” featuring Ari Hoenig, Gilad Hekselman, Martin Kershaw and Tom Gibbs. He undertaken two special projects for BBC Radio Scotland “The Burns Project” a chamber Jazz quartet reinterpreting the melodies of Robert Burns and “Five Corners” A quintet looking at the cross-over of Jazz and World musics. His newest release is a quintet called “Occurrences” featuring some the leading improvising musicians on the planet Will Vinson, Mark McKnight, Steve Hamilton and James Maddren. The album released in May 2012 on Whirlwind Recordings is a seven part suite based on occurrences from his own life. (November 2014)
