| Biography | Andrew graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow in 2012, where he attended the Alexander Gibson Opera School and studied with George Gordon and Kathleen McKellar Ferguson. Awards at the RCS included the David Knox Memorial Prize, the Governors Recital Prize for Singing, and the Florence Veitch Ibler Prize for Oratorio Singing. Andrew was also the first RCS student to win the Joaninha Trust for Singing. While at the RCS, roles included Papageno Die Zauberflöte, Don Carlos in Prokofievs Betrothal in Monastery, Badger Cunning Little Vixen (Scottish Opera/RCS), Matveyev War & Peace performed both in Scotland and Russia (Scottish Opera/RCS), Antonio Le Nozze di Figaro, Coppelius Les Contes dHoffmann, and Captain Eugene Onegin, while opera scenes included title role Billy Budd, Marcello La Bohème and Golaud Pelléas et Mélisande. He recently played the title role of Gianni Schicchi with Opera Bohemia gaining critical acclaim. Andrew also created the role of Duncan in the European première of Tom Cunninghams chamber opera The Okavango Macbeth (recorded on Delphian Records). Andrew also participated in masterclasses with Sir Thomas Allen, Malcolm Martineau, Lisa Milne, Jane Eaglen and Roderick Williams.
Andrew joined the Scottish Opera Robertson Trust Emerging Artist programme for the 2012/2014 season, where his roles have included Marchese dObigny La Traviata, Bottom A Midsummer Nights Dream and Samuel The Pirates of Penzance. Future engagements include Garibaldo Rodelinda, Notary Don Pasquale and Yamadori in David McVicar production of Madama Butterfly for Scottish Opera and concert engagements throughout Scotland. Andrew has recently retuned to Scottish Opera to play the role of Ordinary Person in James MacMillans Ines de Castro.
Concert engagements have included Belshazzars Feast with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Messiah (Usher Hall, Edinburgh), Howard Goodalls Eternal Light with the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast and Christus in James Macmillans St John Passion at theAssociation of British Choral Directors conference. Andrew has also been heard on BBC Radio 3 performing Finzis Let us garlands bring as part of the Crear Scholarship with Malcolm Martineau and Vaughan Williams Five Mystical Songs as well as Eternal Light with the National Youth Choir of Scotland. In 2015/16, Andrew will be a Featured Artist for Aberdeen University Music Department. Performances include Mendelssohns Elijah, Mahlers Das Knaben Wunderhorn, Vaughan Williams Five Mystical Songs in a collaboration with Caledonian Voices and Faures Requeim. |
