| Biography | Josephine has performed as a concerto soloist with many orchestras in the U.K. and abroad including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Bochum Symphony Orchestra and the Hamburg Symphony Orchestras working with distinguished conductors including Vasily Petrenko, Christian Zacharias, Richard Hickox, Jac van Steen and Rumon Gamba.
In 2005 Josephine made her BBC Proms concerto debut at the Royal Albert Hall. She has recorded as an independent artist for EMI Classics, Deutsche Grammophon, Chandos, Blackbox/ASV and Carlton Classics. Her recording of John Taveners The Protecting Veil received public and critical acclaim and reached the Top Ten in the Classical Music Charts. Her C.D. featuring 18th Century Italian Cello Concertos by Leonardo Leo recorded with the English Chamber Orchestra received International critical acclaim.
Following the success in February 2008 of the World Premiere Requiem by Sir John Tavener, Josephine subsequently released a solo disc recorded with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic for the EMI Classics label. Future projects in 2015 include recording Bach`s Six Suites for Unaccompanied `cello and a concerto disc featuring British composers.
Josephine has collaborated as a soloist and chamber musician with many leading international performers including Daniel Hope, Maxim Vengerov, Lisa Batiashvili, Menahem Pressler, Wu Han, Jeremy Menuhin, Melvyn Tan, the Emerson and Takacs Quartet and Michael Tree from the legendary Guarneri Quartet.
A performer for BBC Radio 3, Josephine has also appeared on the U.K. Television Programme, The Culture Show where she was interviewed and then performed `live`.
Josephine studied at Yale University and the prestigious Juilliard School in the U.S.A. with Aldo Parisot, and at the Royal Academy of Music in London with David Strange, where she won all the major cello prizes and holds the DipRAM and ARAM.
In acknowledgement of her success as an international cellist, in 2008 Josephine was awarded a Fellowship to Wells Cathedral School (one of the four major specialist music schools in the U.K.) and in 2009 Josephine was unanimously elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music.
Josephine was a member of the Pizarro Trio with Artur Pizarro and Raphael Oleg for almost a decade. The Trio performed in many prestigious Concert Halls and venues worldwide including the Wigmore Hall, Aldeburgh, where the Trio were Artists in Residence, the Petworth and Stavanger International Chamber Music Festivals, Casa da Musica in Porto and the Tonhalle in Dusseldorf.
Josephine has also appeared as an independent artist at the worlds most prestigious festivals, such as: Beethoven, Gstaad, Mecklenburg, Salzburg, Mecklenburg, Petworth, St. Emillion, Schleswig-Holstein, and Savannah. |
