Biography | Amy Freston studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and the National Opera Studio. Recent engagements include Agilea Teseo with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra (Tanglewood Festival; New York; San Francisco; International Handel Festival Göttingen); Belinda Dido and Aeneas, Rose Maybud Ruddigore (Opera North); The Owl and the Pussycat as part of the London 2012 Festival (Royal Opera House 2); soprano soloist in Raymond Gubbays Strauss Gala tour. At Opera North and Glyndebourne roles inlcude Cherubino Le nozze di Figaro Miss Wordsworth Albert Herring Valencienne The Merry Widow Amore Lincoronazione di Poppea Sandman Hänsel und Gretel Despina Così fan tutte First Niece Peter Grimes, Elsa in the world premiere of David Sawers Skin Deep Belinda Dido and Aeneas, La Musica Orfeo. Other engagements include Ilia Idomeneo (Grange Park Opera); La Belle Hélène (English National Opera); James Macmillans Parthenogenesis (ROH Linbury Theatre); Orlando (Early Opera Company); The Philosophers Stone (Garsington); Despina (English Touring Opera and for the Samling Foundation directed by Sir Thomas Allen). She created the roles of Io and Woman Three in Birtwistles The Io Passion directed by Stephen Langridge (Aldeburgh; Almeida; Bregenz Festivals) and has recorded Birtwistles Nine Settings of Lorine Niedecker with Adrian Brendel. |
