BiographyAfter studying both piano and violin at the Royal College of Music, Nick Davies is enjoying a successful career as both a Musical Director and Conductor.

Since 2011 Nick Davies has been Principal Conductor of Vantaa Pops Orchestra, Finland. As a guest conductor, Nick regularly works with numerous European orchestras including Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, The Hallé, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra. He made his debut with the Helsinki Philharmonic in January 2010 and has since conducted them on a number of occasions and he is looking forward to starting Leonard Bernstein’s Centenary by conducting a concert of his music with them in January 2018. Nick is a regular guest conductor with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, joining them on various tours, televised concerts and recording projects and has had the honour to conducted them at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert every year since 2007. Nick is a guest conductor of Friday Night is Music Night on BBC Radio 2 with the BBC Concert Orchestra and is very much in demand by solo artists with whom he extensively records individual albums. Nick has made regular visits to Asia, where he especially enjoys conducting the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. For over 25 years he has moderated and conducted concerts nationwide with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; his extensive recordings with them include compilations of classic symphonic rock, The Beatles, a Disney collection, films scores and two from their “Here Come The Classics” series.

Nick Davies began his career in Musical Theatre in 1986. Since then his West End Credits include, Martin Guerre, Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music, Annie Get Your Gun, Fred Astaire – his Daughter’s Tribute, Phantom of the Opera and My Fair Lady. For Les Misérables, he worked as both Musical Director in the West End and Musical Supervisor in Germany, Finland and Belgium, and also toured Scandinavia in its concert version. For Grange Park Opera he conducted Cole Porter’s Anything Goes to critical acclaim. He was Musical Director and conductor for the world premiere of the Disney/Cameron Mackintosh production of Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre, London, and was Musical Director for the 2006 production of Evita at the Adelphi Theatre, London. Work abroad includes the final concert of the Macau International Music Festival with the Orchestra of the Central Opera Company of Beijing and the San Carlos Choir from Lisbon. Nick Davies was the Musical Director of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella for the New York City Opera production, which was performed in Japan, and gave the world premiere of Garbo-The Musical at Oscars Theatre in Stockholm. He supervised and opened Miss Saigon, Evita, Three-penny Opera, Beauty and the Beast and The Producers at Helsinki City Theatre. Throughout Scandinavia he conducted West End International’s Another Kind of Magic in autumn 2007 and in 2008 he conducted the 60th birthday anniversary tour of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Over the past 10 years Nick has conducted Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Kungliga Filharmonikerna, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Orchestra della Toscanna, the Toscanini Orchestra of Parma, Kristainsand Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Northern Sinfonia, Western Australia Symphony Orchestra and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, Sonderjylands Symphony Orchestra and has enjoyed 3 full seasons at Gothenburg Opera where he is already engaged to return during 2017-18. This season he is conducting a new production of Phantom of the Opera at Finnish National Opera, Helsinki and will return in 2017 and 2018 for 2 new productions with them. (November 2016)
