Biography | Grammy nominated and award-winning Norrbotten Big Band is a professional big band under the artistic direction of saxophonist and composer Joakim Milder. Based in the north of Sweden, the Norrbotten Big Band is part of Norrbotten countys music institution, Norrbottensmusiken. Norrbotten Big Band and Joakim Milder, a professor of improvisation and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, continue to stretch boundaries and create completely unique jazz that draws on a wide range of influences from Arabic and folk music, to the music of jazz legends such as George Duke and Quincy Jones.
Norrbotten Big Band has performed with legendary jazz musicians, such as Peter Erskine, Dave Liebman and Rufus Reid. National, as well as international names perform regularly with the band. Recent guests include American jazz guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, Los Angeles duo KNOWER, British pianist Django Bates, Swedish singers Edda Magnason and Lina Nyberg and trombonist Nils "Nisse" Landgren, to only name a few.
