| Biography | Helen Crosmond-Turner was an English operatic soprano singer. She had a successful career in England, America and Italy, notably in the role of Aida in Verdi's opera.
She faced many family troubles, with her mother's reputation, of 'beauty for ever' and imprisonments, her husband and sister committing suicide, and her brother suffering from depression. She also faced professional disappointment after losing her contract to sing with the Royal Italian Opera and she also abused narcotics for pain management. She committed suicide by shooting herself in a cab in 1888. |
