BiographyClaire Wickes has performed as guest principal flute with the BBC Symphony and Philharmonia Orchestras, and is currently on trial as Principal flautist of the English National Opera, and Sub-principal flautist of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. She is a Masters student at the Royal College of Music, where she studies flute with Daniel Pailthorpe and Gareth Davies, and piccolo with Kathleen Stevenson. Claire's recent performances include a solo recital at the Royal Albert Hall Elgar Room and a tour to Kyoto, Japan, as well as chamber music performances at King’s Place and Cadogan Hall.

Claire studied for her undergraduate BA in music at Brasenose College, Oxford, where she held an academic scholarship. She graduated with first-class honours achieving one of the top three firsts in her year, and was selected by The Oxford Student newspaper as one of the university’s top 50 undergraduates. During her time at Oxford Claire studied the flute with Michael Cox, principal flautist of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. She gained a place on the London Symphony Orchestra Woodwind Academy, and was the winner of the Oxford University Philharmonia Concerto Competition, resulting in a performance of the Nielsen Concerto. She has also performed concertos with the Oxford University Sinfonietta, Gorton Philharmonic, and Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra.
