Biography | John David Newcombe, AO, OBE (born 23 May 1944 in Sydney) is an Australian former World No. 1 tennis player who won seven Grand Slam singles titles, and an all-time record 17 doubles titles. He was one of a large number of Australian players to dominate the field during the 60s and 70s, and is one of the few men to have been ranked World No. 1 in both singles and doubles. Newcombe was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1985. |
