Performance Notes | Recorded for BBC Radio 3 and broadcast on 7 September 2011.
There were anti-Israel and pro-Israel protests outside the Hall in the West Car Park that were policed. There were also lots of interruptions before pieces by anti-Israeli demonstrators in the auditorium, around 35 people were ejected, mostly from the Circle and a large group from the East Choirs. Zubin Mehta, Conductor, and the orchestra were determined to carry on. At each demonstration they waited in silence for the protesters to be removed and then started the piece. There were no demonstrations during the pieces. Due to the noise created, Radio 3 decided to switch to their standby plan of broadcasting previous recordings of the same pieces. |
