| Performance Notes | Independence Day 1945, almost two months after the end of World War II in Europe and during a post-war comedy growth buoyed by rising television and radio, saw the first standalone comedy show at the Hall - led by trans-Atlantic icon Bob Hope.
The concert entertained over 10,000 American military personnel at the Hall, while they awaited orders to return to the US as war with Japan waged on. Bob Hope entertained troops at numerous requests by President Truman, ultimately serving over 50 tours with the United Service Organisations between 1941 and 1991.
On this Independence Day concert, he remarked "We get a big kick out of coming to these out-of-the-way places", before embarking on a full tour of Europe. |
