Performance Notes | "SHOWER OF MONEY AT HOSPITAL BALL. £10,301 SUBSCRIBED. ... A message from the Princess Royal, president of the hospital, hoping that the hospital would derive a large finaincial benefit from the ball, was taken to heart by the dancers and diners, and they showered notes, cheques and coins on to a sheet held by 10 helpers. While the replicas of £5 and £10 note sprinted on this sheet wer ebeing covered with genuine notes, other helpers reached crowded tiers with nets and on long poles. This was the first time the ball had been held at the Albert Hall. ... The dancers were treated to an all-star cabaret with more than 100 performers.
