Performance Notes | According to an article in The Daily Telegraph (6 June 1942) an attempt was made to bring a micro-filmed score of Dmitri Shostakovitch's Seventh Symphony, composed in Leningrad, to the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London in time for this performance at the Albert Hall. The film was made in Leningrad and was sent by aeroplane and arrived on Wednesday evening (3 June 1942). Photographic chemists, however, could not prepare the film in time, and the orchestra played Shostakovitch's Fifth Symphony instead. |
