Performance NotesThis was the first concert of the Delius Festival in conjunction with the Delius Trust. This was also the debut concert of the newly formed Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) at a major London venue. Their very first concert had been in Croyden on 11 September 1946.

"It is unnecessary at this time of day to enlarge on the intuitive sympathy and penetrating understanding that Sir Thomas Beecham has of Delius's music. The new orchestra may show its distinctive qualities in detail on other occasions, but on Saturday the overwhelming impression was of a Hall filled with golden tone which enveloped the listener so that he lived for the time being in a world of sense shot through with the peculiar emotional poignancy that is Delius's translation of sunt lacrimae rerum." (The Times, 28 October 1946)

The concert was broadcast on BBC Radio Home Service at 15:00-17:00.
