| Performance Notes | "SCOUTS AT ALBERT HALL.
DISPLAY BY 3,000 PERFORMERS.
A demonstration of the activities of the three branches of the Boy Scout movement-Wolf Cubs, Boy Scouts, and Rover Scouts-was given by 3,000 Scouts from London and the Home Counties at the Albert Hall last evening.
The demonstration lasted nearly three hours. The Chief Scout, Lord Baden-Powell, was unable to be present, but he sent a message through the Chief Guide, Lady Baden-Powell. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress and the Sheriffs of the City of London were present, and the audience also included Dr. Strumillo, member of the Boy Scouts' International Committee and formerly Chief Scout of Poland, and Dr. B. A. Perott, International Commissioner of the Russian Scouts (National Association).
The programme opened with a procession of flags of all the countries in which there are Scouts. The Union Jack, symbol of the birth-place of scouting, had pride of place, and afterwards came the flags of the 39 parts of the British Empire, and behind them of 47 other countries which have embraced the movement. The procession was led by the massed pipes and drums of the Scottish Scout groups in London, and it included a number of Russian Boy Scouts who are at present living in London. Displays by Cubs followed. Four' hundred London Wolf Cubs gave the Grand Howl.
The items which followed showed Scouts erecting bridges, scaling walls, and engaging in other forms of pioneering work. A large group of Sea Scouts demonstrated the land drill of life-saving from drowning of the Royal Life-Saving Society. Rhythmic drill, a comparatively new form of physical training in the Scout movement, was next carried out to music. Rover Scouts, a senior branch of the Boy Scout movement, gave a display of physical training, weightlifting, and rope spinning.
A choir of 600, under Dr. L. P. Huggins, the Headquarters Commissioner for Music, and the orchestra of the All-London Scout Revue gave selections during the demonstration. Finally, there was Camp Fire, in which 1,000 Scouts took part under the direction of Mr. W. J. Genese, an assistant county commissioner. Rover Peter Dawson, the well-known baritone, took part in the singing of familiar tunes.
LORD HAMPTON, Chief Commissioner, welcomed Lady Baden-Powell and expressed the regret of performers and audience that the Chief Scout was unable to be present.
LADY BADEN-POWELL said that they were nursing the Chief Scout back to health and strength, and before many months were passed the Scouts would be able to see him again. (Applause.) She brought a message of love and greetings from him. The Chief Marshal was Lieutenant-Colonel A. N. Francis. "
