Performance NotesFor the second year running, school, youth and university choirs will be able to enjoy all the fun of Messiah from Scratch, getting to know Handel’s Messiah in stages, and best of all singing it free of charge at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 30 November. The Scratch Youth Messiah will be conducted by Suzi Digby OBE, a tireless champion of choral singing among young people and the inspiration behind The Voices Foundation and the London Youth Choir.

The Scratch Youth Messiah will be the familiar version of Messiah as Handel wrote it, not a simplified arrangement. To ensure that even the least experienced singers can participate, choirs choose their own level of involvement by selecting one or more groups of choruses to sing. Handel’s Messiah is a traditional and essential part of the UK choral scene: the aim of The Scratch Youth Messiah is to ensure that this tradition continues for many generations to come.
