Main Performers | Miss Anna Williams, Mr Watkin Mills, Mr Iver M'kay - vocals |
Performance Notes | "The Royal Choral Society began the new year with a performance of the Messiah on Monday evening, when, notwithstanding the severity of the weather, a large audience assembled. As originally arranged, Mme Patey and Mr Edward Lloyd, two singers whose names are usually associated with this work, should have taken part, but unfortunately Mr Edward Lloyd was prevented from singing by a severe cold. His post was filled in a highly creditable manner by Mr Iver M'Kay, while the soprano and the bass music was, of course, perfectly safe in the hands of Miss Anna Williams and Mr Watkin Mills. The chorus did their work well under the conductorship of Sir Joseph Barnby; 'For unto us' was redemanded and repeated. At the next concert, Miss E [Ethel] M Smyth's new Mass [in D] will be given for the first time." (The Times, 4 January 1893, page 6) |
