Jac van Steen conducts excerpts from one of the most dramatic and colourfully scored of all ballets, Prokofievs Romeo and Juliet, a highlight of our series marking 400 years since the death of Shakespeare.
BBC commission and world premiere of 'Violin Concerto', Michael Berkeley. The violin concerto was dedicated to Berkeley's late wife, the literary agent Deborah Rogers, who died suddenly in 2014.
"Hanslip's poetic touch kept every note she played alive and fresh whatever the violin, acoustic or electric; so did the subtle table tattoo of Diego Espinosa Cruz Gonzales. The conductor Jac van Steen and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales contributed their own finesse to this music of consequence and feeling." (The Times, 28 July 2016) |
