| Performance Notes | John Adamss Harmonium is an intricate tapestry of sound, with bright vocal threads and driving brass and percussion rhythms. Marking the composers 70th birthday this year, it features the BBC Proms Youth Choir.
Award-winning pianist Igor Levit is the soloist in Beethovens groundbreaking Third Piano Concerto, and this years First Night opens with the world premiere of BBC commission, St Johns Dance by rising British composer Tom Coult.
Igor Levit unexpectedly played the European Union (EU) anthem, 'Ode To Joy' from Symphony No.9 4th Movement, Beethoven, Liszt.
The first half of the concert was broadcast on BBC Four, and the second half on BBC Two live. |
