Performance NotesManchester punk heroes Buzzcocks were joined by a host of special guests at the Royal Albert Hall on 21 June 2019 to pay tribute to their late frontman, Pete Shelley.

The gig had been billed as a special evening with three pioneering bands of British punk, with Buzzcocks, The Skids and Penetration all set to take to the Hall’s stage. However, following Shelley’s tragic death in December, the bands decided to turn the night into a one-off celebration of his life.

After charged performances from Penetration and The Skids, Steve Diggle, Chris Remington and Danny Farrant took to the stage to kick off an extended set of Buzzcocks favourites with special guests.

Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, The Charlatans’ Tim Burgess, Captain Sensible and Dave Vanian of The Damned, Peter Perrett, The Skids’ Richard Jobson and Penetration’s Pauline Murray all became honorary Buzzcocks vocalists for the evening, and were joined throughout by classic Buzzcocks members Steve Garvey and John Maher.
