Performance Notes | The Hall remained closed to the public in accordance with government COVID-19 regulations.
150th 'More History to Make' banners were hung to the north of the Hall, signage was hung in the Door 6 Porch and a gobo light was projected onto the outside of the building with the same 150th logo.
'Imogen Heap - An Exclusive 150th Birthday Performance' was recorded and later broadcast for free on the Royal Albert Hall's website at 19:00 on Tuesday 20 April 2021.
Imogen recorded the exclusive one-off performance in our empty auditorium of improvised movements based on the Recitative and Air from Sir Michael Costas 'Biblical Cantata', the first-ever musical work performed at the Hall's opening ceremony in 1871. The words were,
"Through wisdom is an house builded, and by understanding it is established; and by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. Wisdom is glorious, and never fadeth away."
Imogen takes us on a unique musical journey in this special digital event which sees the Ivor Novello and Grammy award-winning producer, writer, singer, multi-instrumentalist and technologist perform on her personal digital perspex grand piano, wearing her Mi.Mu gloves to control the sounds and lights throughout the performance.
This day marks 150 years since this incredible building had its first performance. A huge honour and pleasure to be here to mark the occasion with you in these strange Covid times. Feels so good to be performing in a venue again! Thank you! (Imogen Heap, 29 March 2021)
