Performance NotesA concert held on a Bank Holiday Monday.

"...The last item in the programme was the American national song, 'The Star-spangled Banner,' performed by the five bands, under the direction of Mr Dan Godfrey. As if actuated by an involuntary impulse, the entire audience sprang to their feet with the first bar of the tune, and continued respectfully standing undtil it was completed, when there ensured such as tempest of enthusiastic cheering, waving of hats, and fluttering of handkerschiefs, as might have convinced the most incredulous Yankee of the cordial good feeling which is entertained by Englishmen towards their cousins on the other side the Atlantic."
