Performance Notes | "LENER QUARTET, The Lener players took their places upon a specially constructed platform in the centre of the Albert Hall yesterday, and thereby encompassed the vastness round about with their sweet poignant sounds. Not from one, but from several places in the auditorium, the present writer was able to judge of the satisfying effect of balance and fusion of tone resulting from this arrangement. For once the gigantic hall was subjected; it is not so much a matter of magnitude as of position and a well-directed aim. And one is led to suggest a continuation of the experiement for the purposes of orchestral music. A rounded and central orchestra, judiciously arranged, would probably create an entirely new set of associations for this maligned building." (Daily Telegraph, 9 March 1925) |
