Performance Notes | "Carnera's Victory on a Foul Perhaps in the distant future, when the re-tellers of boxing stories are in danger of exhausting their material, the fight between Primo Carnera, the Italian giant, and Young Stribling of America, at the Royal Albert Hall will become a classic encounter. To those who actually watched it last night, however, in spite of the valiant nature of Stribling's effort, and one really great moment in the third round, when first the giant was felled to the ground, and then his tormentor, the contest was merely one more big fight between big men that ended in disappointment and futile discussion. For, early in the fourth round, in the course of a clinch against the ropes, Stribling brought up two punches to the body, a left and a right, that were palpably below the belt. The referee, at any rate, had no doubt as to the illegality of both, and promptly disqualified the American and declared Carnera, while still writhing on the ground, the winner..."
