Performance NotesThis autumn sees the Royal Albert Hall partnering with some of its leading performers to host a series of music workshops for local children in its Elgar Room, as part of its expanding education programme.

On October 16th Emeli Sande will be working with children from the London boroughs of Hackney and Lewisham to investigate the art of song-writing. The lucky children will spend two hours with Emeli in the Hall's Elgar Room to look lyric writing and putting words to music, culminating in a performance with Emeli.

Commenting on the workshop, Emeli said: "I was really excited when the Royal Albert Hall suggested the idea of a workshop to supplement my gig there. I wanted to specifically work with children from Hackney as it's an area in London which doesn't have the Hall on its doorstop - it's great to be able to give this opportunity to children who otherwise wouldn't have it".

The event began with a Q&A session and then the groups came together as vocalists with the band accompanying them to rehearse and then perform the song to a group of Royal Albert Hall staff.

At the end of the workshop, Emeli and her band performed one of her own songs to close off the day.
