Set List | Minute Silence In Memoriam to Queen Elizabeth II, 'God Save the Queen' (The National Anthem), trad., 'Nimrod' from Enigma Variations, E Elgar |
Performance Notes | This Prom and the remainder of the 2022 BBC Proms season were cancelled due to the announcement of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by the Royal Family at 18:30 on the evening of 8 September 2022. As this was only shortly before this Prom concert, staff and customers were invited to enter the auditorium for a minute silence and to hear the Philadelphia Orchestra, dressed in black, play 'The National Anthem', followed by Elgar's 'Nimrod' to mark the solemn occassion.
Statement by Craig Hassal, CEO of the Royal Albert Hall on the death of the Queen: 'It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of Her Majesty The Queen. Queen Elizabeth II was a dedicated servant to her country over very many years and a committed Patron to the Royal Albert Hall. Her Majesty The Queen visited us many times over the years, taking in a wide variety of concerts and celebrations from the Queen's Box. She was a devoted supporter of the armed forces, and attended the Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance annually, most recently in November 2019. I am sure that you will join me in honouring her memory. There will be a book of condolence at Door 12, the flag will fly at half-mast and the curtains in the Queen's Box will remain closed during the period of mourning. As a mark of respect to our Patron, today's concert will not go ahead. Further communication will follow if there are any changes during the mourning period. Thank you for joining me in remembering Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.'
