Performance Notes | Enjoy inspirational performances of music by Mozart, Schönberg and Prokofiev, performed by outstanding young performers Maria Gîlicel and Tolga Ün from the Royal College of Music, whilst enjoying a hot drink and a pastry in the Halls Elgar Room.
Unusual from many points of view, Mozarts stunning K.304 Sonata was written whilst touring away from home and carries with it the darkness caused by the loss of Mozarts ill mother. After returning to Russia in the 1930s, the homesick Prokofiev wrote his Sonata Op.80 in response to Stalins terrorising tyranny and carries with it notes of pain and despair caused by a turbulent time in which coming home didnt equal either sense of happiness or relief. This recital programme is intended to reflect on the very human experience of homesickness, the inevitability of loss and pain, and the ultimate longing for a better world. Maria Gillicel.
