Performance NotesEnjoy an inspirational performance of music by Debussy and Kodály performed by outstanding young cellist Haru Ogiwara, live in the Elgar Room.

Haru Ogiwara began playing the cello at the age of six with Dr.Oliver Gledhill. He has been a student of the Royal College of Music Junior Department (RCMJD) since 2016, where he has studied with Michal Kaznowski and is currently studying with Pal Banda. He is a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra member and has received numerous honours and performance opportunities such as the RCMJD Barbara Boissard Junior Concerto Competition prize and playing in the finals for the Peter Morrison Concerto and Gordon Turner Competitions.

He has also received numerous prizes outside of RCMJD such as the Premier Cup & Recital Prize at the North London Festival, the Gregynog Young Musician String Player of the Year 2020, Gustav Mahler Competition in Prague Masterclass Award, The Special Award in Radolfzell Music Festival in Germany, and The Cello Masterclass course at the Kronberg Academy with Gary Hoffman in 2022. He has appeared in concerts such as at the Guildhall in London for the annual Lord Mayor’s Reflections, The Youth Music Award Grand Ceremony and as a soloist of the Schumann Cello Concert conducted by Thomas Gregory with the Fortismere Community Symphony Orchestra.

Haru is generously supported by the DfES Music and Dance scheme, Awards for Young Musicians, Future Talent, Drake Calleja Junior Scholarship, Wrightson Trust Music Scholarship and J & M Michael.

He plays a cello by J.F. Wright, Newark, 2023 (1727 Goffriller Ex Shapiro Model) and a William Salchow bow belonging to Pei Sian Ng and Pei Jee Ng who, have been supporting his artistic development.
