Performance Notes | The James Kitchman Quartet perform live in the Elgar Room. The quartet, led by the quietly rebellious (Songlines Magazine) guitarist James Kitchman, perform a programme of jazz drawing influence from contemporary folk, ambient electronica, and chamber music.
The acclaimed quartet features a cast of Londons finest improvisers: pianist Bruno Heinen (Denys Baptiste); bassist Tom McCredie (Elliot Galvin Trio); and drummer Shane Forbes (Empirical). Improvisation and empathy are at the core of the groups spirit; conjuring a sound that is at once stark and refreshing.
Kitchmans debut recording First Quartet was released in 2022, receiving a rapturous reception in the press, airplay on BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM, and Soho Radio, and over 500,000 streams on Spotify in the first six months of its release.
I love the feeling of the quartet, the beautiful tunes, and the deep chemistry between the musicians Sam Amidon, Nonesuch Records artist
