Performance Notes | Sounds Queer presents a night of queer musical excellence in the Elgar Room as part of the Royal Albert Halls Late Night Jazz series.
Sounds Queer platforms and champions diverse voices from the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, straddling the void between live music and queer nightlife, bringing the queer party energy to live music.
For this very special soiree, expect we welcome the glittering gorgeousness of Shivum Sharma, Barbs and DJ Toby Corton.
Expect classical music, chaos, charisma and utter camp-ness all in one go from drag pianist extraordinaire Barbs, who has performed at the likes of Latitude Festival, Sink The Pink, Mighty Hoopa, Glastonbury, The River Stage at The National Theatre, and the Southbank Centre.
Shivum Sharma is a 28-year-old singer, songwriter and DJ from South London. The artist, of Indian-Irish heritage, has developed a uniquely futuristic soulful sound, inspired by legendary high-octane vocalists ranging from Minnie Riperton to Prince to Björk. His music has received support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, NTS and Gay Times.
DJ Toby Corton will be on the decks, spinning some jazzy selections to intro and outro the evening. Toby has been dubbed as a 'charismatic queer cockney creative', to quote BBC6 Music's Tom Robinson. He has also been singled out as a queer community leader by Brick Lane Jazz Festival, off the back of co-founding Sounds Queer.
