Performance Notes | Inspired Word - Christmas with John Cooper Clarke and special guests Mike Garry and Luke Wright.
The poet laureate of punk, the self styled bard of Salford, John Cooper Clarke is a comic wordsmith who will deliver the wittiest show you will hear this year. His piercing, satirical, political and fiercely funny verse expressed in his rapid-fire performance style resonated with the punk movement and youth culture of which he became a figurehead in the late 70s. After touring with most of punks critical and ground-breaking bands including the Sex Pistols, The Clash, Buzzcocks and Elvis Costello, he carved out a name for himself and produced his seminal works 'Evidently Chickentown' and 'Beasley Street'.
One of Britains most important poets and performers, last year he was the subject of the BBC documentary Evidently John Cooper Clarke. This year in May 2013 Clarke appeared as a guest on BBC One's Have I Got News for You and is set to appear on the Arctic Monkeys album AM, set for release on 9 September 2013, with the track "I Wanna Be Yours". Aside from recently headlining the Palladium, John has made a multitude of recent UK and Irish festival appearances including Glastonbury, Latitude, Electric Picnic and many others. John is working on a new book of poetry, and is as vital now as he was then. |
