Small bronze inscription panel reads, 'Sir Joseph Barnby (1838-1896) succeeded Charles Gounod as conductor ofthe Royal Albert Hall Choral Society, which in 1888, was renamed The Royal Choral Society by command of H.M. Queen Victoria.'
