To his right are a sower, a reaper and a group binding up the sheaves, the women carrying them away on their heads; it is a typical harvest scene. To the right of this are two shepherds with their sheep dogs, completing this simple look at the people who worked the land.

Creator NameHenry Stacy Marks RA (13 September 1829 in London - 9 January 1898 in London) was an English artist who took a particular interest in Shakespearean and medieval themes in his early career and later in decorative art depicting birds and ornithologists apart from landscapes. Most of his early works were oils but he also worked on murals and with watercolours. He was a founding member of the St Johns Wood Clique and was well known for his humorous performances.
