DescriptionPickersgill's depiction of Pottery and Glass-making completes the frieze and brings us back to the first panel. On the far left, two women work a potting wheel while the potter sits at the wheel, forming plates and bowls. To the right, plates, jugs and bowls are decorated, glazed and packaged. Completing the panel on the far right, three glass-makers heat, shape and decorate glass bowls and vases.

Frederick Richard Pickersgill RA (25 September 1820 - 20 December 1900) was an English painter and book illustrator. Born in London into a family of artists, he was admitted to the Royal Academy Schools in 1840 and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1839-1875. Most of these works depicted scenes drawn from literature, religion, and history. Pickersgill was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1847 and a full Royal Academician in June 1857, but retired in 1888. He was keeper of the Royal Academy Schools from 1873 to 1887.
