Description | Trumpet played at the Royal Albert Hall's opening ceremony on 29 March 1871. The trumpet bears the inscription This instrument played by Mr C Bailey at the opening of the Royal Albert Hall, London, 1871 and is made by a company called Butlers who were based at the time in the Haymarket, London.
The trumpet is one of the only physical items we have from the opening ceremony of the Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences, on 29 March 1871 by Queen Victoria. This instrument will have performed an important role in the concert, played from the top of the portico as part of the trumpet fanfare heralding the Queens arrival to the Hall and announcing the opening of the Hall. |
