These cushions were the most expensive seats in the house. Ticket holders could pay up to £1000 to watch the match in the traditional way - sitting on one of these red floor cushions laid out around the wrestling ring or the dohyo.
Sometimes these seats are referred to as 'sunkabari' which literally translate to 'covered in sand' seats as they are so close to the ring sand is often kicked out over them during a match. They also have the added risk of a 30 stone wrestler toppling onto them from a two-foot-high ring. For the 2025 Tournament the Royal Albert Hall had to take out special insurance to mitigate this very real risk. |
