Performance NotesAn event to inaugurate the National Service A.R.P. (Air Raid Precautions) 'drive' in preparation for the then possibility of War. The event happened a few hours before the National Service handbook was issued and the audience was comprised of thousands of A.R.P. volunteers. The rally was attended by civic leaders and members of the various defence services to plan for bomb shelters, air raid warnings etc.

The event was broadcast by BBC Radio for 40 minutes from 20:00.
